Burnley added to their ranks today with the shrewd addition of former Leeds United left back, Charlie Taylor, who joins the Clarets on a 4 year deal.
The 23 year old becomes Burnley’s first signing of the summer, with more almost certain to follow in the coming weeks.
The flying left back is sure to add another dimension to the Clarets attack, with his attacking attributes making him the perfect ‘modern day full back’.
Taylor was widely regarded as the best left back in the Championship, so he is a major coup for the club, but this certainly won’t guarantee him regular game time from the off.
Standing in Taylor’s way, last season’s ‘View from the Longside Player of the Year’, Stephen Ward, and displacing him could prove Taylor’s biggest battle.
The Irishman was exceptional last season, and you would expect that the onus will be on Taylor to displace him, rather than him being given a starting berth against Chelsea.
Beyond Taylor, it would appear that things are starting to heat up on the transfer front at Turf Moor, with a move for Jonathan Walters edging ever closer.
The Republic of Ireland International is believed to be undergoing a medical with the Clarets in the next 24 hours, in a move which will be worth around £3 million.
Sean Dyche is clearly keen to bolster his attacking options, with an £8 million bid for Britt Assombalonga knocked back earlier this week, but the Clarets are expected to return with a second offer.
The impending arrival of Walters and the continuing link with Assombalonga would indicate that Andre Gray could well be on his way out of Turf Moor, with the money received being put into the Assombalonga deal.
