Bournemouth 2-1 Burnley: Player Ratings

Burnley’s away day blues continued on the South coast yesterday, as they slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the Vitality Stadium.

Goals from Junior Stanislas and Josh King were enough to ensure Bournemouth moved onto 45 points, and the Clarets stayed on 40.

Burnley thought they had snatched a point, when Sam Vokes converted Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s cross, but it wasn’t to be, as the Clarets’ away day woes returned.

Here, I will rate yesterday’s starting 11 on a scale of 1-10…

Tom Heaton: 7 – Handled a few shots from distance well, but couldn’t have done much about either goal. Surprisingly quiet day for Heaton.

Matt Lowton: 7 – Solid enough performance, but didn’t really have any impact on the game. Kept his defensive shape well, but could have done more in an attacking sense.

Kevin Long: 8 – Thought he had a very good game. Defended very well and was never caught out of position. Outshone his centre half partner.

James Tarkowski: 6 – Still has an awful lot to learn. Caught out for the second goal. Too slow to get back goal side of King, and then a poor decision to go to ground.

Stephen Ward: 6 – Caught cold for the first goal. Switched off and allowed Stanislas to get in behind. Wasn’t his usual self in an attacking sense either.

George Boyd: 6 – Gave his usual hard work, but again, offered very little going forward. Was sloppy in possession and allowed Daniels a lot of joy down the left.

Ashley Westwood: 8 MOM – Very tidy in possession and always looked for the forward pass. Was always available to retain possession in the middle.

Jeff Hendrick: 8 – Very similar to Westwood. Retained possession very well and provided some attacking threat from midfield. Hard done by to miss out on MOM.

Scott Arfield: 5 – Had three great chances fall his way, but was wasted them all. Very sloppy in possession and his defending was unusually poor.

Sam Vokes: 7 – Great header for his goal and his general play was very good. Held the ball up well and brought others in to play.

Ashley Barnes: 6 – Hooked at half time after a poor first half. Struggled to make any impact on the game and his usual physicality didn’t appear to be there.
