Burnley are interested in bringing FC Koln striker Anthony Modeste to Turf Moor according to Sport Witness, via BILD.
The stumbling block in any potential deal between Burnley and FC Koln is the price the German side are demanding for the striker. Koln are believed to be looking at recouping between 30 and 40 million euros for the hitman, which could be a bridge too far for the Clarets.
That said, the transfer record has been broken by Mike Garlick 3 times in the last 4 transfer windows, and if we are to stay up, then realistically he will have to break it another 2/3 times over the summer.
Modeste has been on fire in the Bundesliga this season, netting 23 goals in 29 games, a phenomenal record.
But for his age, 29, you would have thought that the Premier League’s top clubs would be actively looking to sign him.
With Andre Gray seemingly seeking a move away from Turf Moor in the summer, you would expect that Modeste would be a more than adequate replacement for the departing Gray. If we could recoup as much money as possible for Gray and put that to the Modeste transfer, it could be the key in making the deal happen.
If the Clarets are to land Modeste, they will have to beat off stiff competition from Premier League rivals West Ham, Stoke City and West Brom.
